Park Life Gallery presents

Strange and Constant

New works by Evan Nesbit and Marissa Textor.

July 23 through August 30, 2010

Opening Reception Friday July 23, 2010. 7pm to 10pm.

Evan Nesbitís paintings and sculpture can be viewed has highly abstract representations of his very real connections to the Sierra Nevada foothills where he grew up. From the counter-culture refuge to the mystique of the gold country, Victorian architecture, and seclusion inducing landscape, this environment largely shaped his notion of identity aside from the pure affects of cultural spectatorship.

Marissa Textor, a California based artist, makes photorealistic, graphite drawings that look to natural phenomena for inspiration. Textor's work examines why natural events occur and how they can relate back to our own lives. Water, rocks, smoke, and animals are all common elements that emphasize the role that nature plays in creating a world that is constantly surprising and changing. Her drawings call to attention images that are right in front of us but easy to miss.

Evan Nesbit received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2009, he is attending the MFA program at Yale University School of Art this Fall.

Marissa Textor received a BA in Art and Geography from UCLA and received the Werner Z. Hirsch Drawing Scholarship.
